So I keep reading that you can burn 275 – 400 calories in 20 minutes using a kettlebell…which sounds pretty unbelievable. I’ve read it over and over, but it keeps going back to one experiment done with it.
Has anyone ever tried a kettlebell workout? I found another page that says using the kettlebell 20 min a day equals running at a fast pace 6 hours a week. Can this possibly be accurate??
I run a 2 mile path through the woods everyday (hills, unpaved, etc)…would this really be comparable?
Oh, and I also do weight training at least two or three times a week…
Kettlebells have been around for a long time but vanished for a while. They have made there way back into the industry and everyone is getting behind them. I was fortunate enough to attain my Girevoy Sport Level 2 National Kettlebell Certification in Australia. There are only 25 certified in Australia. Kettlebell or dumbell or barbell? They all work however you need to follow the right protocols with reps, sets. rest. You should never count calories burnt in a workout and that is because reistance training and aerobic training have different hormonal affects on the body. Cortisol is released when you do aerobic based exercises which equates to more fat storage. You burn fat during an aerobic workout however the body adapts. The reason the body adapts by storing fat is because its a survival mechanism. The body needs access to energy for your next aerobic workout so it stores more fat so it has energy to access. Make sense ? The more aerobically fit you are the lower your testosterone levels, thats a proven fact. You just have to look at the physique of a marathon runner compared to a sprinter. Resistance based exercise however has a anabolic effect on your tissue. Aerobics has a catabolic effect. When your adrenal glands manufacture hormones the first hormone it will secrete is pregnenelone. Pregnenelone has two choices, it will either become cortisol or DHEA. DHEA is the precursor to testosterone. I hope you can appreciate the difference between aerobics and resistance training. The point is you can still perform aerobics with a barbell, kettlebell or dumbell. Anything that lasts for 60 seconds generally is aerobic short duration, 120 sec and more is generally aerobics long duration. My point is you need to use a weight heavy enough so that you a working for between 0 sec and 60 sec. Another thing aerobics will do is make you insulin resitant, that mean that your cells will not use glucose but rather store glucose in fat cells, this is what happens to an type 2 diabetic, VERY BAD ! Resistance training makes your cells insulin sensitive,THIS IS IDEAL. That is the science behind aerobic VS resistance training. So yes a kettlebell workout that has the right exercises and the right rep rest ratio will have a more positive effect on your physique compared to any from of running, and thats means calories. 10 minutes on Kettlebell with rests in between compared with 10 minutes running. Kettlebells hands down !!! Finally every 1 pound of muscle you put on will burn an extra 50 calories per day. Aerobics and cortisol has a catabolic effect meaning that you will breakdown muscle therefore slowing down your metabolism. Thats why my clients are ripped!

I watched a video on it. It looks odd. I think the only way to truely no if it works for you is to try it. Everyones different some people can loose weight but eating healthy while others will do hardcore work outs etc..
